Saved view tabs to be supported in Project templates

Hi @Michele_Campbell2, the ability to pre-define multiple custom List views (with different configurations, fields, and filters) within the template itself is not natively supported.

I do see the benefit of this though, be sure to scroll to the top and click the purple vote button!

Best,

Desperate need! If I can apply fields, sections, rules, AND task templates with a Bundle, what is the point of a project template if you cannot save the view tabs?!

This is great, but I have to also have a tab that filters by a custom field - in my case, context. I have a ā€œDocumentationā€ context, a ā€œBudgetā€ context, a ā€œTrackingā€ context; this allows me to view only the tasks directly related to that function AND limit the properties I see for each task. Budget for example shows sell price, cost, margin, vendors, PO and Invoice numbers. Tracking shows only lead times, ship dates, delivery dates, addresses, delivery contacts, etc. Unless there’s an easier way to track incoming and outgoing products related to a project that I don’t know about?

This would save our Project Managers much admin time each time they kickoff new projects. Would love to see a release around this!

This functionality would help us significantly to avoid manual work and avoid inconsistencies from one project to the next.

I absolutely love both the Project Template features and the Custom Layout features. Both huge game-changers in Asana!

I understand that those features were rolled out independently and it might be a big lift to merge them. But if it can be done, it will greatly streamline future work for just about anyone using Project Templates.

Right now, I create a task called ā€œAsana Setupā€ with subtasks steps at the beginning of any template with instructions, but sometimes they can be complicated.

Currently, anyone using a template needs to be reminded to, at minimum:

  • Set Filter (for every layout - ex: Calendar, Timeline, etc.)
  • Set Sort (for every layout)
  • Set Other Layout Options (ex. Show Calendar weekends by month)
  • Adjust Group, if needed (for every layout)
  • Remove unwanted Tabs/Layouts
  • Hide unwanted Custom Fields (for every layout)
  • Manually create any ā€œNotesā€ tabs (ex. SOP or Instruction Notes)
  • Manually create any custom Layouts (ex. by Custom Field, Assignee, etc.)
  • Manually set default view (if a custom view)
  • Manually set project icon & color

Currently, I tell my clients there are two TYPES of Project Templates. One that focuses on creating established timelines and assignees (Native Project Template) and one that focuses on customized layouts (Project to Duplicate). The latter is great for things like Team Meeting or 1:1 Templates.

Again, sounds like a heavy lift on the coding side for Asana. BUT, it would be a great addition to the overall functionality!

Thanks for all you do Asana Team!

Just ran into this while trying to create a template with a few filtered views that help us run meetings and show tasks in various ways. +1 to this feature ASAP, as right now we’re just duplicating projects every time, which requires a lot more manual work.

Totally agree. This would be a very useful addition. We also rely heavily on templates and having saved view tabs included would save a lot of repetitive setup work.

Please add this functionality to templates.

I understand it’s not as simple as adding various views to a template’ - the update would have to include sort, filter, group…but without these features, templates are half baked and not functional for many use cases.
