My team does a lot of work in subtasks, and we use the “delete subtasks” functionality regularly. We noticed this morning that there’s no option to bulk-delete subtasks, as it was changed to "delete task”. This is causing a lot of manual work and time. Will Asana be bringing back the “delete subtasks” option?
Welcome, @Thea_Soukup,
I agree and voted!
I also changed the title to phrase as what a vote for this is asking for; hope that’s ok.
@Forum-team, Can you let us know if this is a mistake (we hope), an A/B test, or an unannounced change rolling/rolled out?
In the meantime, in many cases you can still delete selected subtasks in this manner:
Thanks,
Larry
Yes, this is a feature I use a lot. Relatedly, when I delete a project, it doesn’t automatically delete the tasks inside the project, so teammates are receiving irrelevant tasks and asking what it’s related to. I wish there was an option to select.
When working on a task and you were in the need to delete a group of subtasks, you just simply selected the wanted subtasks to delete and then do the bulk action of click in the option to “Delete selected subtasks”:
Now it looks like Asana remove this option from the action list for a task and we can ony “Delete task”, and if you want to delete a subtask is a similar process (not able to do in bulk anymore).
I have many clients already complaining about this so here is what I have teach them:
1.Use the list view of the project (always my best recommendation, the board view is very limited in these kind of actions) and expand the subtasks.
2.Select the wanted subtasks to delete and click the
trash bin icon from the floating menu at the button of your Asana screen to delete the subtasks.
It is for sure not effective, specially if you are dealing with a project with multiple tasks, but many clients use the subtasks as a checklist to ensure the SOPs are followed correctly, and from time to time there are cases where something just needs to be deleted.
Bulk actions are needed for big projects and it makes no sense having to go back to individual actions.
PS: Here is a scribe guide in case you want to save it: How to Bulk Delete Subtasks in Asana.
I’ve merged your post into an existing topic where you can click the title to scroll to the top and vote by clicking the Vote button. And you’ll note your better job documenting the same workaround I offered there!
Thanks,
Larry
Previously I could select multiple subtasks and click on the three dots in the task and select to delete selected subtasks. I no longer see that option when multiple subtasks are selected. I only see the option to delete the task. This requires me to delete each subtask separately. Was there a change and is there a workaround to this?

Welcome, @Sarah_Quezada1,
This is really a separate topic and actually it’s in development which means it’s expected, say, in the next quarter. You can learn more here:

This change needs to go back - this is really really detrimental.
Thanks. This post did not showed up on my search so thanks for flagging this to me. Although this seems like a step back, why do we have to do it this way when we used to have “deleted subtasks”? makes no sense.
I’ve asked for clarification about the change in the post above; I hope our workaround is only a temporary one.
Great to hear! And you’re not wrong. But I also really need the return of bulk deleting subtasks as it’s something I do monthly for heavily repeating tasks. But I did start to wander in my comment because apparently I need to delete a lot of things!
Hi All, We have found out that this is a Bug in the system, and we have resolved this for you. The changes will be reverted tonight. Thanks, everyone, for flagging it. ![]()
Excellent news; thanks, @Liz_Carpio!
Larry
This was sending me into an existential crisis. Looking forward to the fix.
Thanks Liz, when is it expected to be fully restored? I still don’t see it reverted in the Organizations I am a part of.

I see it this morning in one environment I checked.
