# Removing a member without losing their history

Hello @Karien_van_der_Westh,

in this case I would deactivate/remove this team member from your organization [via the admin console.](https://asana.com/guide/help/premium/admin-console#gl-deactivating). Then when doing so you also have the option to create a project with their previously assigned tasks.

I also recommend following [these steps](https://forum.asana.com/t/remove-offboard-deprovision-a-user-from-an-organization-and-what-to-do-beforehand/202645) before removing the person.

Once this member has been removed one seat is free for the new team member.
