After a recent update, the subtasks of a task within a project belong by default to the section of the parent task. This can’t change manually, and you can’t even see the section in the subtask; you have to go back to the parent task to check. This is extremely limiting, as a parent task might involve subtasks from different sections. Is there a work-around for this?

It looks like the new update allows the subtask to inherit the parent task’s project, but doesn’t initially allow section selection, which could be a limitation for your use case.
As a workaround, multi-select the subtasks from the project list view, then add them to the project so you can select which section these subtasks can be added to. Hope this helps!

Thank you for your fast reply and the suggested solution. I’m not sure if I did it correctly, but it doesn’t really work. Adding the subtasks to the project indeed let me modify the sections. However, the newly added subtasks appear as different tasks from the original ones. This means that there are now duplicate tasks in the project, some in the right section and some not. It would be much more efficient if selecting section for each subtask was autonomous, as it used to be. The update made the projects messier.

Not to say that this solves your scenario, but in the interest of accuracy and having the mental model right: those are NOT different and duplicate tasks; they are the exact same task just showing in two places in the list view.
