This is probably because you haven’t joined (How to Create, Join, and Manage teams in Asana | Product guide • Asana Product Guide) or created a Team yet (How to Create, Join, and Manage teams in Asana | Product guide • Asana Product Guide). When creating a project, you need to choose in which Team you want to house it, which explains why you won’t see the option to create a project if you don’t belong to any Team.
