Hi everyone,
What I’m trying to do
I want to duplicate a project. It’s a recurring meeting project with a fair amount of history in it, and I’d like a copy to work from.
What I’ve tried so far
- Duplicated the project with all options selected. The copy was created and showed up in my sidebar.
- Waited several days, in case it was still processing in the background.
- Tried again a few days later with the same settings.
- Opened the copy in both the Asana desktop app and Chrome.
- Tried a third time with a stripped-down selection: under Project tabs I left only Overview, List and Board ticked, and deselected Timeline, Calendar, Workflow, Dashboard, Messages, Files, Gantt and my saved custom view – in case one of those views was what the client couldn’t render.
- Checked whether the tasks were simply hidden as completed, and looked for them elsewhere in Asana.
What’s not working
Every copy is created, appears in the sidebar, and then never loads. Opening it shows only grey loading placeholders – no tabs, no header, nothing in the toolbar. It stays that way indefinitely; the first one has been like this for four days. No completion notification ever arrived in my Inbox or by email.
Removing the extra views made no difference. The behaviour is identical in the desktop app and in Chrome, so it doesn’t look browser-related, and the original project opens and works perfectly.
On the most recent attempts Asana also threw the “Asana needs to be reloaded” dialog twice, each time with a different unique phrase.
The confusing part: the tasks themselves clearly do get created. I can see the duplicated tasks in My tasks, tagged to the copied projects. So the duplication partially runs, but the project ends up in a state the interface can’t display.
Has anyone run into this? Is there a way to duplicate a project that avoids whatever is breaking here – or is this something only Asana can fix on their end? I’m on macOS, and I’ve archived the broken copies rather than deleting them, in case they’re useful for diagnosis.
Thanks for any pointers!
