I need to re-create a project with corrected tasks and durations, from a template that was created.
The project in question has conversations connected to it that the team wants to share. What happens to the conversations when the project goes away? Do the conversations get deleted or will they still be accessible?

Great question! When a project is deleted, everything within the project will be deleted as well except for assigned tasks and tasks associated to other projects. You can read more about it in the following guide article: Setting Up a Project in Asana | Product Guide • Asana Product Guide
If you need for these conversations to remain accessible, I would encourage you to archive your projects instead of deleting them. That way, you can easily access to the information whenever you need to.
