I’ve been setting up some team goals with manual progress updating, including entering current and starting values, but it looks like there’s a bug with how Asana graphs these goals:
The shaded element shows that Asana recognises our financial year actually started in April (we do FY Apr-Mar), so the starting value of 219K belongs there. But the line element is ignoring both the FY and the starting value, and instead showing a “starting value” of 0 in July, which would be when I first set this goal up (but didn’t immediately configure its values).
Am I missing something, or is this a bug in need of fixing?
Hi @EJ_Mann , this is expected behaviour - the progress line will add a node, each time you update the status or the value of the goal, on that particular date.
The shaded area behind the line simply shows the expected linear progression that the line should follow, just for reference. This rampup of this shaded area is based on the choice of Quarter, Half year or entire Year, along with the starting and target values.
It makes sense to me that the progress line would be less linear than the expected progression, but shouldn’t the progress line still take into account the starting value and time period when creating its first dot point? Or could there at least be an option to edit those dot points?
Otherwise it looks like it’s impossible to set up FY goals after the start of the FY without rendering the progress graph innacurate.
Or am I missing something? Is there a way to set up goals after the first day of the FY and still have the progress line accurately reflect the true starting date and value?
@EJ_Mann , I agree this would be visually logical and it could warrant a new Product Feedback if you’d like to create one or I could simply move this thread into that category so that you and others (and myself ) could vote on. Let me know!
Albeit, I believe the only way this would be achievable would be to post a status update once the period of the goal begins (eg. 1st day of the quarter or year, etc) with the current value set to zero (or whatever the starting value is). That way, you would create a note on that date and thus reflect your starting value.
Hi Richard, please do move this thread to Product Feedback - I thought that was where I originally posted it! Maybe someone already moved it once?
Given that users won’t always be creating goals on or before the first day of the goal period, it seems to me the easiest fix would be either:
automatically create an initial “status update” and dot point using the provided data for period & starting value - the same data that’s already being used to start the shaded area at the correct date & value; or
allow users to create a status update backdated to the starting date, instead of forcing updates to be dated by the day they were posted.
