Yes, there is a dedicated page for it, but as is present with other services (like live service games or purchasing services) where users are dependent on a platform, more visibility matters. It’s not about what is logical, it’s about ease of access for users who access information in different ways. Some people may not even think of hopping on a forum instead of looking for the status page and similarly in vice versa. Some people may not even think to go to either and email customer service instead, or call.

Besides, it wouldn’t hurt to make an announcement on the forums which takes all but 30 seconds or less.
