Option To Archive Teams

Even if this doesn’t exist as stated, I’m a little surprised there isn’t an easier workaround. We’ve created a mess of different “teams” in an effort to organize projects and we’re trying to clean that up without losing all of the archived work that occurred under those teams. Even if I can’t “archive” a team, I would like to just relocate the archived projects. Just make a checkbox when deleting a team, kind of like when you delete a user and you can relocate their tasks.

Thanks Ryan for providing some sort of solution to this still ongoing need to Archive teams. If you don’t mind, May you share a snapshot of your teams so we may see how you have them named? Particularly the Team with mixed service projects.

I am a beginner user and have just upgraded to the Advanced plan so I can use Portfolios to house all clients and their projects. But as we know, these projects have to belong to a team and if I have one client that has 3 different types of projects, it seems a lot to navigate through 3 different teams just to work on this one client’s work. Have you encountered this and if so, what solution did you come up with?

Is Portfolios the answer since you can add different projects from different teams to one portfolio? Maybe I am answering my own question but I am trying to see if anyone else may be doing this before I build it out. Since it doesn’t look like Asana is going to add this feature, I don’t even want to go down the path of adding clients as “teams” and have to face this roadblock later on.

Marketing agency here - desperate to archive teams! I was trying to move all projects we want to keep to a single global team so I can delete the inactive teams, but now I can’t even easily see a list of projects I need to move AND we have literally thousands of projects that I would need to move one at a time…it’s just really not reasonable. I see there is a now a team “knowledge” tab which is actually a cool idea and makes me like the idea of clients as teams…but not being able to archive teams is killing me.

Yes, please prioritize archiving of teams. +++ 1
I was cleaning up and deleted a team only to realize everything inside that team gets deleted!
I have been using Asana for over 5 years and this is the first thing that has come up as a required feature that isnt there. It seems unreasonable that this feature hasn’t already been built.

Any update here? This is an absolutely crucial feature.

Because Asana introduced portfolios I don’t know that we’ll ever see this come to life. I understand that not all users have access to portfolios, so I’d like to offer a workaround I have offered to clients in the past.

I have had them create a project in their all staff team called "Clients”, in this project each task would be a client and within the task they would can create a grid in their description that would have each project’s name, a link to the project, and any other information related.

Some have chosen to have each project be a subtask and when the project has been completed they complete the task, they use subtask details to hold other information.

I know it doesn’t give you what you want here, but the clients I have introduced this to have been happy with the solution.

Upvote +1 - this would be an extremely helpful update

Wow - eight years and there’s still interest in this feature development. My organization ramped up their adoption of Asana as our project management tool across all departments over this past year. Unfortunately, we’ve been on it since 2016 and there are over 350 teams. Many of which have zero members, team owners who have left the company and honestly, just junk….I’d like to be able to archive the teams because I’m a pack rat at heart and don’t delete anything. PLEASE create this feature.

I use the work around where I just have one ‘admin’ account that is the only member of the project. They are the only one that sees it. It works quite well and is very easy to implement! (note - the admin account doesn’t have to be an active user, just a log in when you want to ‘archive’ or ‘unarchive’).
