Moving Attachments Btw Tasks

Can I easily move attachments from one task to another without having to open the attachment, save it to my computer, and then re-attach it to another task?

Hi @Nat - That is one way of doing it, and yes you’ll need to reattach for each task. However, rather than reattaching the attachments themselves, I’d refer to the Files section of your project and/or I’d just add to the new task description something like, "Refer to [hyperlink to task] for related attachment.]

Yeah, I need to move files to a different task as well. I’m using a task to hold all the documents that must be zipped together for a client deliverable and currently the files are in a couple different places. I guess I’ll have to download/re-upload.

I really need this capability as well. It is time consuming to save an attachment back to my desktop and then reattach to another task (especially if multiple tasks in a project refer to the same file!). In addition doing this, uploads another copy of the same file which then causes confusion when editing and viewing files associated with a project. I would think ASANA would want to create the ability to attach files to multiple tasks simply to save storage space on their services. How hard would it be to add another option to the attach file options that showed files in the current project?

Note: I don’t want to use links because it is inconsistent when looking for attachments in projects. Also, a link (in a note or description) blends in with all the other information Easy for people to overlook or not even know the attachment is there.

I’m with you on this Jeanine. It would be a really useful option to move a link. I’ve imported an email to ASANA which includes logos/info, but whilst I can copy and paste the data to another existing task, I can’t move over the logo. So frustrating.

I realized today that I cannot “relocate” a photo from a sub-task to its parent task. I assigned someone to find a document and she took a screenshot and put it in the sub-task comments (which makes sense). I want it in the parent task. Currently, I can link the sub-task in the description or download it and re-attach it.

Is there a way to “move” the photo from the subtask to the parent task?

Indeed! @Rebecca_McGrath we should probably merge this with Moving Attachments Btw Tasks - #4 by Jeanine_Scott

Hi @RedHeadKev, thanks for taking the time to provide this feedback!

I’ve gone ahead and merged your post with Moving Attachments Btw Tasks - #4 by Jeanine_Scott as suggested by @Bastien_Siebman to keep all feedback consolidated!

I’ll let you know if we have any updates to attachments here on this thread

Thank you. I looked for a good 10 minutes but didn’t see this one. I guess I was too focused on the “photos” rather than the general attachments.

Surprised there aren’t more votes/requests for this, but this feature would be very helpful.

3+ years later and we’re still wishing for this functionality! This is a big hurdle to the way we’d like to use Asana. The downloads and uploads to move things to subtasks or the main task is a pain and referencing links to a different task doesn’t just take you to the image, it brings up all the images on the linked task. We thought we had a work around where you could copy an image in one location and paste to another but for some reason if you copy a JPG it pastes as a PNG and can only be pasted in a comment. Any suggestions welcomed!!

Being able to do this would be so helpful. It would be even better if you could create a rule for it! Then everything could be automated.

This would be such a time saver! Even a right click short cut, or a drag & drop, drop down arrow to copy… anything to simplify without having to download and reload something you’ve already uploaded. Please Asana - having this feature would be amazing!!
