I have seen first hand that many users miss this button when it appears in a project view tab, whenever one changes the layout of a number of things (filter, sort, group, options, columns widths/positions etc)
Perhaps making the ‘Save view’ button blue, or somehow more noticeable, will visually draw attention as a ‘call to action’ to hit that button in order to retain the layout; something that many users/customers I work with, tend to miss.
I’m thinking blue which is used for create, save or share buttons throughout but I’ll leave that for the designers to figure out.
A reminder, a while back, we used to get a blue dot..
Something like this to me logically just thinking about it I’m surprised there isn’t any sort of popup or notification that asks if you, before you move or leave from one view to another example from Board view to List View “Do you want to Save your view before you leave?” Something like that would be helpful- because I’ve definitely done that sometimes and forget to save my view- in the end losing all my settings, filter changes I’ve made.
This is really a different solution than the request to make the button blue or more noticeable, so maybe you’d want to make this a separate request? I suggest that because others might be like me in that they feel differently about the two potential solutions so it would not be clear how to vote here.
I actually encourage clients to experiment more with filters, sorts, and groups and direct them to just “leave and come back,” e.g., click another tab, then return to the initial tab. That lets you see the defaults in place and kind of resets you. I think a popup would present too much friction; you’re not losing any data so it’s too harsh to warn folks, and it usually only takes a few seconds to restore the settings.
Yes, I agree. I wouldn’t advocate for adding friction - I’m simply asking for the button to be more prominent. And I’m suggesting blue rather than red (which is always used for actions that remove or delete).
Thanks everyone for chiming in here! We 100% understand this product opportunity and have in fact explored ways to help address this. In testing out new Motion design tokens earlier this year, the Design System team ran an experiment where the Save view button animated in from the side. While this did increase engagement with the Save view button, it also led to a number of other unexpected behaviors that ultimately led us to unship in favor of having our Project Experience team - the domain experts for the surface area - investigate further in the future. I’ll bring this back up with @anon50834620!
