Hi,
For retainer-style projects, we section active work by month, so we have sections like:
- Planned for June’24
- Planned for July 2024
We have a native automation to add a custom field, ‘target month’, when this is added.
Two things would greatly reduce our per-project overhead:
-
If we can set a condition “If section title contains ____” - this would allow us to specify “June”, and it’d work every single year - as long as we get the month right in the section name, we’d never have to update this again.
-
If we can set this ruleset in the template, we’d never have to manually set this up again.
So… forum friends… any way to move towards this with Asana’s current capability? Or is this a set of feature requests?
Hi Craig,
If you want to have this rule set in a template, does it mean you plan to use a project/year?
One idea will be to add the Year in your project title but not in the sections titles. So you can keep the same title for your sections, not depending on the year, like “Planned fo July”
Your rule will run for every project, without edit it.
Does it help?
Hi, thanks for the idea, but sadly not - we do need the year in there, as most projects are multi-year, and sections can’t be nested.
I want to have the rule ‘read’ the section title, so it’ll recognise section title “June 2023”, “June 2024”, and “June 2025” and any ad-hoc section with a month (for example, called “Special Project work - June”) all as “June”.
@Craig_Martin1 - this is not natively possible, but perhaps it can be done with @Phil_Seeman’s Flowsana? If not, this would be possible with a 3rd-party integrator like Zapier or Make.
Flowsana doesn’t currently include a condition like this. It’s an interesting idea - food for thought…
