Link to file system instead of https

The solution to this may be obvious but I can’t come up with it.

I’m trying to insert a hyperlink to a file or place in our windows filesystem in a task description. For example I’d like to reference a document at the location:

file:///V:/mydirectory/myfile.docx

Browsers handle this type of link with ease, but when I try to insert a link, Asana keeps prepending https:// to my url and I end up with a link to:

https://file:///V:/mydirectory/myfile.docx

Which is useless. I can paste the text version of the URL that points to the file system, but there ought to be a way to have a live hyperlink.

Any ideas? Is this a feature request somewhere?

Thanks!

Hi @Bill_Pataky, thanks for reaching out. Good question!

As mentioned in this thread, Asana does not support external (server) links due to security reasons.

I recommend you take a look at Asana’s Statement on Security for background information https://asana.com/security-statement

Security is super important to Asana, so anything you think could possibly compromise security probably isn’t possible in Asana. We want to keep people’s data secure! Any file linking/attachments will simply happen using the existing attachments feature - from computer, Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, One Drive - or dropping a link into a task.

I hope this helps!
