Increase Dropdown Options for Custom Fields (from 500 → 1000+)
What I’m trying to do
I’m building out a comprehensive workflow in Asana that relies heavily on dropdown custom fields to categorize and track a large number of items. Our use case requires us to have more than 500 unique dropdown options in a single custom field—for example, to represent product SKUs, client names, or project categories.
What I’ve tried so far
-
I’ve organized our options into multiple smaller fields, but that adds unnecessary complexity and makes reporting harder.
-
I also explored using text fields, but that sacrifices consistency and introduces errors when users manually enter values.
-
Automations or integrations don’t solve this either since they still rely on the same dropdown limit.
What’s not working or confusing
The current 500-option limit prevents us from maintaining a single, accurate source of truth within one field. This means we need to split or simplify data that should live together, which adds friction for users and increases the chance of mistakes.
Feature Request
Please consider increasing the dropdown option limit for custom fields from 500 to 1,000+ (or ideally removing the cap entirely). Many larger teams and enterprise users rely on extensive data sets, and a higher threshold would make Asana much more scalable for these workflows.
Expanding this limit would:
-
Simplify data structure (fewer fragmented fields)
-
Improve reporting accuracy
-
Support more complex enterprise use cases
