There’s one anecdote that really stuck with me over the years as an Asana consultant, and this one is 100% true: “I was ashamed of the way we work”.
I was working with a client, asking about their onboarding process. In the back of my head, I was already thinking about suggesting an onboarding template, because we know how much impact that has.
But what she told me surprised me. The last time she onboarded someone, she said she was ashamed. That was the exact word she used. She was ashamed of the way the company was working. Ashamed of the processes.
This is not normal. You should be proud of the way you work.
At i.DO, I’m actually super proud of the way we work. Things can get complicated, sure, but everything is cleanly organized. More importantly, we always know where we can improve, and we improve every single day. We don’t stay stuck in the past. Nobody says, “it’s bad, but it’s always been this way, so I’m not changing it.” Instead, people are constantly trying to improve the processes.
That can be hard sometimes, because improvement never stops. But in the end, onboarding someone is a piece of cake. It’s actually a pleasure when you’re proud of the way you work.
And that’s how it should be in most companies.
