How to ensure a custom field's values is used only once per tasks in a project?

We have a project where Tasks must be ranked by priority and the priority value can only be assigned to one Task. I.e., two tasks cannot both be ranked #1 priority. A custom field has been created with single select priority values (1-15).

How can I set up a rule for when a value is chosen for a task, it is no longer available as a choice for other tasks? Ideally, there would be a ranking field type, but for now I need a workaround.

@Jess_Rains – unfortunately this isn’t something that can be done. If you need to rank projects by priority you might want to make that their sort order so it stands out if there is more than 1 task with the same number.
