Help me invent 4 new Asana celebration creatures - team roles quiz! 🦄🦦🐳🏔️

Hi Everyone,

In a recent LinkedIn post, I shared an idea to map Asana’s celebration creatures to Belbin Team Roles, inspired by my interest in team dynamics and productivity.

This project combines a few things I’m interested in:

  • Learning more about Asana’s capabilities and how I can bring an idea like this to life
  • Exploring Belbin Team Roles in a more engaging and visual way
  • Having a bit of fun with the celebration creatures
  • Creating something the community might enjoy and share

There is one major flaw in my plan: Belbin has 9 team roles, while Asana only has 5 celebration creatures.

Rather than inventing the remaining four myself, I’d love to see what ideas this community comes up with!

So far, I’ve mapped:

:unicorn: The Unicorn → Shaper
:otter: The Otter → Coordinator
:spouting_whale: The Narwhal → Monitor Evaluator
:snow_capped_mountain: The Yeti → Completer Finisher
:fire: The Phoenix → Implementer

That leaves me needing creatures for:

:seedling: Plant – creative thinker and idea generator
:handshake: Teamworker – supportive, diplomatic, relationship builder
:magnifying_glass_tilted_right: Resource Investigator – networker, opportunity finder, explorer
:graduation_cap: Specialist – subject matter expert with deep knowledge

A few ideas I’ve been considering:

:monkey: Monkey → Plant
:fox: Fox → Resource Investigator
:dog: Golden Retriever → Teamworker
:owl: Owl → Specialist

But I’d love to hear from the community.

If Asana were to introduce four new celebration creatures, what would they be and which Belbin role would they represent?

What’s next?

My next step is to build a ‘team roles’ quiz within an Asana project that maps responses to a celebration creature, helping people discover which one they’re most aligned with.

This is purely a creative learning exercise, so I’d also love to hear any ideas on how you would bring something like this to life within Asana.

Looking forward to your suggestions! :black_cat:

 It seems we share the same interest. Personally, I faced a similar situation, though one with less of a creative or organizational impact. My mascot was a cow, a play on words with “COW-orking”, which I personally associated with healthy productivity and a cozy space. :orange_heart:

I had to research the Belbin roles and find them absolutely fascinating! Thank you for giving me a new topic to research.

In the meantime, I love the Owl as the specialist, but what about a mouse for the investigator?

Then for the teamworker I was thinking panda. And the creative thinker as a platypus!

Love this! Without knowing much about Belbin other than what you posted here, I think a butterfly would be good for the Plant. :butterfly:

Great topic - I think a Seal for Resource investigator! Everyone loves a seal and they’re amazing foragers - so it fits. :seal:

It’s so interesting isn’t it, and I overlooked the fact that being a UK theory, it may not be known to many!

Love those ideas, especially the mouse :mouse: @Brittany_Sommerfeldt

Also i’ve just researched Pandas and they are not teamworkers  ‘As solitary creatures, they rely heavily on an acute sense of smell to avoid one another’

‘If you put a team of pandas together to accomplish a task, they would likely just ignore eachother, eat bamboo & fall asleep’ :panda:

:lizard: lizard/chameleon for plant. Lizard can symbolize regeneration, adaptability and camoflage

I want to suggest a wolf for the Teamworker. It plays on the wolf pack being the source of safety and community for the wolf. They hunt as a team, they raise babies as a team, they do everything as a team. They epitomize teamwork.

Hi and thank you for the opportunity to offer some suggestions.

Ideator/Creative Thinker: I do like the Chimpanzee as the creative thinker however also think a Black Raven (Crow) is another option to consider.

Teamworker: I am a Bee fan and feel there teamwork and dedication are often overlooked in the animal kingdom. Bee makes a great option as a Teamworker.

Resource Investigator: Dolphin. Is there a better networking animal that is always curious!

Specialist: Love the Owl also commonlly used as the “wise one”. Prehaps Elephant is an option knowing how highly complex they are with incredible memmories and social structures. I also think the visual effect of an elephant blowing water from its trunk may create some fun giggles and engagement.
