G'day from Sydney! 🇦🇺 Reintroducing myself + a quick read on the art of hosting ☕

Hi everyone! :waving_hand:

It’s been a minute, so I wanted to reintroduce myself to this wonderful community. My name is Jess, and I’m part of the Asana Community team, based in Sydney, Australia! :sun:

My favourite Asana feature is our long-standing hero: multihoming. (Seriously, being able to see one task live across multiple projects without duplicating work is an absolute lifesaver!)

A big part of what we do in the Community team revolves around hosting. Whether it’s setting up webinars, launching virtual events, or kicking off online discussions right here in the forum, we are always trying to create spaces for you all to connect and learn.

Because hosting is always top of mind for me, I recently came across a fantastic Substack article that really got me thinking. It’s called “Five hosting habits I nicked from standard-setting events” by Olly Rowe.

It’s a quick, insightful read about the subtle habits that make people feel welcome, engaged, and looked after—things that apply just as much to digital spaces and webinars as they do to in-person gatherings.

I’d love to open the floor to you all:

  1. Do you have a favourite lesson or takeaway from the article?

  2. When was the last time you hosted something (a meeting, a webinar, or even a dinner party!), and what is your go-to trick for making it a success?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and catching up in the comments below! :backhand_index_pointing_down:

Cheers, Jess :koala:

Hi Jessica,

One takeaway I’ve had from a fairly recent Asana webinar, was that they play music on arrival - I thought this was a great idea to combat that awkward silence of waiting for the start! I also think for engagement within a webinar, I like it when they ask related questions via a poll so you can see insights from other attendees on a specific topic.

Welcome back, Jess! :tada:

What a delightful and cosy article! I don’t have a takeaway from it that’s specific to hosting, but thought the drinks tray was such a nice example of how in almost any scenario, it’s so much more effective it is to offer folks specific choices rather than asking open-ended questions! :cocktail_glass::cup_with_straw: :tropical_drink:
