We’ve been using the Asana free plan for a couple of years. We are a small company, with 5 users collaborating on different projects. Asana is our main work tool. Our account is over 5 years old.

Suddenly, we all see this message when trying to access our projects:

#### You aren’t on a paid plan

This project has more than 2 project members. You can remove members or upgrade to continue using this project. [Learn more](https://help.asana.com/hc/articles/23166152757787-Subscription-management-and-upgrades#gl-upgrade-prompt)

Is this normal ? Did the free plan change suddenly ? I understand that you want to get users to pay, but we would have appreciated a heads up for this. We are now unable to access all of our tasks and our main workflows.

Is this normal or just a bug ? Do have no choice other than subscribing to a paid plan to get our functionalities back ?

Thank you

Did you get a heads up for this ? An email, a notification, or anything ?

I understand why they do it, but it’s beyond scummy to do it without warning, if it’s not a bug.

Hi @Valentin_Barbe,

Unfortunately, Asana updated its free plan around November 2025, reducing the member limit to just 2 seats. It seems they have been gradually rolling out these limits to existing users recently, with notification emails from [learn@go.asana.com](mailto:learn@go.asana.com) and some users reporting in-app banners. It’s possible the emails may have landed in your spam folder.

Regardless, I know it’s frustrating to lose access to a plan that previously met your team’s needs.
