Filter by custom task type in saved view not applied when creating project from template

When creating a project from a project template (without any tasks in it), that has a saved view with a filter by task type (to show only one specific task type), this filter is not applied in the newly created project.

However, the setting for the grouping in a saved view within a project template is applied correctly when creating a project from this template. Only the filter mentioned above isn’t carried over.

Hi all,

I created a project template with a custom tab that’s filtered by a **custom task type** (e.g., RCT). The tab itself copies to new projects created from the template, but the **filter disappears** in the new project. If I change the filter in the template to use built‑in Task/Milestone, it persists fine. If I switch the filter to a custom field (e.g., Type = RCT), it also persists.

Is this expected for custom task types when templating saved views? Any recommended workarounds (other than filtering on a custom field or re-saving the view after project creation)? Thanks!

Hi @Karun_Mehra,

I merged your post with an existing topic on this same issue. Be sure to vote for it at the top of the thread.

Seems like a bug to me!

Hi All,
I logged it as a bug, and I’ll be in touch if/when any updates are available.

Thanks for flagging this!

I am experiencing a similar issue where my custom task types are part of a bundle contained within a project template. When I create a project from this template, Asana is not seeing the custom task types in the bundle, which in turn is causing failed Rules associated with the custom task types.

Hi All,
A fix was deployed last night, so please check if you see the effects.
Of course the usual steps of clearing out cookies, restarting your app, etc. are recommended!

Hi, thanks for the update. However, the bug is not fixed for me.

Here are my tests and my findings:

  • I cleared out cookies and restarted the app.
  • I first created a new project from the existing template, including the view that is filtered by task type; the newly created project did still not have the filter applied.
  • I set the same filter (by task type) in this new project (and saved the view) and created a project template from it; in edit mode, I now see that there isn’t even a filter applied in the template.

So I wouldn’t call this bug fixed.
