Dear Asana Team,
As an Asana key user, I would like to suggest an enhancement to Asana’s automation capabilities.
In our project setup, we use custom date fields, for example a project “Start Date”, as key milestones for managing project workflows. However, it is currently not possible to use these custom date fields as time-based triggers for rules or automations.
It would be highly valuable if custom date fields could trigger automations when the date is reached, or shortly before or after it. For example:
When the custom field “Start Date” is reached, automatically:
-
send a notification or comment to specific stakeholders,
-
notify our internal team and FIN,
-
update the project status to “currently running”,
-
trigger any related follow-up actions.
At the moment, these steps have to be monitored and updated manually, which creates additional effort and increases the risk of missed updates, especially when managing multiple projects in parallel.
Adding custom date fields as automation triggers, such as “on date”, “X days before”, or “X days after”, would make project workflows more reliable, scalable, and efficient.
I would appreciate it if this could be considered for future development.
Best regards.
