Emojis showing up in links when commented. And then can't copy/paste without emoji showing up

Briefly describe (1-2 sentences) the Bug you’re experiencing:
I have a url with :x: in it and :o: and when I comment the link the emoji will show up in the link. And if I click on it, it is fine. But if I copy and paste the url into my browser it keeps the emoji with it and then the link doesn’t work.
Steps to reproduce:
Type link into comment box with something that asana interprets as an emoji
Comment the comment
Then try to copy/paste the link into browser search box

Browser version:
FIrefox Browser Developer Edition: 72.0b11

Hi @Jack_Wilson and welcome to the Asana Community Forum!

I’ve tried to reproduce the issue, both with

  1. the URL of an Asana project:
    Ex: https://app.asana.com/0/❌1148991809372954/list
Result: When I click on the URL Asana ignores the emoji and recognise the Project URL > I’m able to access the project despite the emoji

  2. a random URL:
    Ex: https://www.google.com/❌advanced_search
Result: When I click on the URL, I get an error message, the URL is not recognized.

To be honest, I didn’t know Asana was able to ignore emojis and open the correct URL. But I don’t believe this is supported by browsers in general. Either, way this is not a bug, so I’ve gone ahead and moved it to #tipsandtricks.

Please let me know if you have any follow-up questions!

Hi @Marie

The issue is specifically with copy/paste. Clicking the link works fine but copying and pasting doesn’t. Also when you copy a url from a comment and paste it into the description box it will initially break the link if it has emoji’s in it. But gets fixed if you reload the task your looking at. I think emoji’s should be removed from showing up inside links.

Hey @Marie I’m still wondering if you’ve looked at how copying/pasting the url with the emoji will not work.

Hey @Marie this appears to be fixed now. Thanks
