We have numerous recurring tasks that occur weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annually.

We create a task to represent the type of recurring task, then use the subtasks for the recurring tasks. For example, a task might be “Quarterly Reporting” and the subtasks would be “Q1 2025 Report”, “Q2 2025 Report”, and so on.

My question is, could we use automation/AI to update the subtask titles dynamically to include things like Week Number, Month, Quarter, and Year based on the task’s due date.

I tried creating a rule that used a custom field “Frequency” to append things like the week number, month, year, etc., depending on what the frequency was set to (weekly, monthly…). This worked fine when I manually added a task to the project, but did not trigger when I added a subtask (even though the automation was set to run on subtasks). It also does not seem to run when a recurring task is generated.

This was the rule I created:

Here’s an example of how I would like the subtasks to appear:

Any help would be appreciated!

It is likely an issue pertaining to subtasks and rules.

I agree that this is counter intuitive. Please note that [Allow to automatically add subtasks to project](https://forum.asana.com/t/allow-to-automatically-add-subtasks-to-project/3018) is currently marked #considered, and would likely solve this.
