I’m trying to create a rule that will duplicate the main task description onto sub-tasks, whilst also updating them if the main task description is changed.
Is this possible?

This isn’t currently possible with rules natively; you’d have to add custom code.
A workaround many of us use is to mention in the subtasks (perhaps right in their title, even) to see the parent task Description for details. That permits a single source of truth with the benefits that go along with that. Of course it’s not as direct, but a subtask’s parent is never more than a single click away.
