Occasionally, one of my colleagues will see me adding a due date by typing one of the recognised shortcuts, and they’ll say, “Wow! I didn’t know you could do that!”

So, just in case there are any others who don’t know them, here are some non-case-sensitive shortcuts for typing due dates:

- Typing a weekday will assign the task to the next one - Mon, Tues, Wed, etc.
- You can also assign to the previous weekday (for retrospective start dates, perhaps) - last Mon, last Tues, etc.
- You can use Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
- You can directly type the due date, using Month → Day; so, Dec 13, will assign the task to Dec 13 this year, and Dec 13 2019 will assign it to the same day next year, and so on.

I use this all the time in combination with the shortcut for assigning a task to myself. So, once I’ve created a task, with the title and description, I can type:

- Tab+M (assigns it to me)
- Tab+D (opens due date)
- Today+Enter (marks it as due today)
- Tab+Y (moves the task to the Today section in My Tasks)

No clicks required. 👍

@Mark_Hudson, These are great–thanks! I just tried next week, next month, and next year and they all work too!

@Marie, are these official? Are they documented anywhere? I couldn’t find them.

_ **Update in 2020: I learned +n day and +n week also work.** _

Thanks,

Thanks for sharing this tips with the Forum @Mark_Hudson 👍🏼

@Larry_Berger_lpb, yes they are official shortcuts! To get the full list of shortcuts, simply click on the “?” at the top right corner of your screen and select “Keyboards shortcuts”

Except! For some reason none of this applied when assigning a date for a subtask.

So you’ll likely end up, like me, navigating all over the place or editing your subtask or something before your eyes catch up to your muscle memory.

@Marie, Thanks, but I wasn’t very clear–I meant to ask specifically about the strings that Mark found could be typed into date fields:

> [@Mark\_Hudson](#):
>
> […] non-case-sensitive shortcuts for typing due dates:
>
> - Typing a weekday will assign the task to the next one - Mon, Tues, Wed, etc.
> - You can also assign to the previous weekday (for retrospective start dates, perhaps) - last Mon, last Tues, etc.
> - You can use Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
> - You can directly type the due date, using Month → Day; so, Dec 13, will assign the task to Dec 13 this year, and Dec 13 2019 will assign it to the same day next year, and so on.

I was wondering if those things were official, permanent, documented (along with the ones I found); and what else is lurking there?!

@lee good point; it only seems to work where there’s an actual text input field to type in, including Due Date and Start Date.

Thanks,

Larry

@Larry_Berger_lpb Just got the confirmation that these shortcuts are official; however, they are not listed in [Keyboard shortcuts in Asana | Product guide • Asana Product Guide](https://asana.com/guide/help/faq/shortcuts) at the moment!

Thanks for this shortcutted shortcuts. Just a question not really belonging to this case - but a little bit. I have several project templates and all have tasks depending on the date the project is created or the projects due date? e.g. 5 days after creating the project “task x” should be due / 2 days before project due date “task y” should be due.

Hi @Nicolas

Dynamic due dates aren’t possible at the moment, but I remember seeing a product feedback thread on this a while ago. Feel free to add your vote:

> [@Project Templates- Dynamic Due Dates (T+)](https://forum.asana.com/t/project-templates-dynamic-due-dates-t/11025):
>
> We would like to be able to create a project template and assign dynamic due dates, so that if we choose a “start date” for the first task or an “initialization date” for the project, the other tasks get dynamically allocated a due date based on their proximity to the start date. Example: I want to create a debt collection project template which I can initialize with every delinquent account: On date X initalize the project. On X+10 days- send a reminder email. On X+20- get the CFO involved. O…

In what field and are there any modifiers when starting these shortcuts? I’ve tried and none of these are working:

- Typing a weekday will assign the task to the next one - Mon, Tues, Wed, etc.
- You can also assign to the previous weekday (for retrospective start dates, perhaps) - last Mon, last Tues, etc.
- You can use Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
- You can directly type the due date, using Month → Day; so, Dec 13, will assign the task to Dec 13 this year, and Dec 13 2019 will assign it to the same day next year, and so on.

Hi @Jared

These should all work in the normal Due Date field in a parent task:

Hi. Thanks for sharing this. That’s brilliant. I’ve been looking for keyboard shortcut to do this but I only got as far as Tab+D. I’ll be using these ‘no click’ date shortcut everyday from now on. Thanks. David

Ahh okay - these don’t work in the quick-add which is how I primarily add things because I prefer the calendar view. I’ll remember to try them out when in a list or in the parent task. Thanks!

Is there still no shortcut for setting the due date to today? Even if Enter worked after pressing Tab+D, that’d be great. This is especially applicable to sub-tasks.

@Aaron, You can type the word “today” in the date field, in case you weren’t aware. More info here:
