Very much looking forward to this featuring rolling out! I really hope the AB test further proves that this is a necessary function for users.
Hi @Marie - very very very excited about this long-requested and much-needed update.
Any updates on when this will be rolled out?
Also, since the feature will be available, I’m curious/confused about why they wouldn’t also be planning to roll it out for My Tasks. Any idea when/if that’s in the plans?
Note: Not a solution but marked as such to elevate a key reply
There’s currently an A/B test for this running for some folks, so there’s a chance this feature may be on the horizon!
Thanks,
Larry
My team relies heavily on subtasks. A HUGE pain point we have is when using the list view on a project AND sorting or grouping, we are unable to see a parent task’s subtasks. Yes, we can see them in the pop out side panel, but then I cannot mass update or easily view custom fields.
@Shera_Clawiter - I cannot possibly agree enough.
It’s a HUGE blocker to productive and efficient use of subtasks in projects.
Make sure to go vote for this and hopefully comment as well so Asana can continuously be reminded of how important this is:
BUT, @Shera_Clawiter - the GREAT news is that they are currently testing a solution to this.
So, still go vote and I’d suggest also going and commenting or following the post about the test:
I’ve merged this thread into an existing topic where you can click the title to scroll to the top and vote by clicking the purple Vote button.

Just want to draw attention to @Elina_P 's screenshot as the proposed options once the subtasks are visible while sorting is on. The ability to apply the sort/filter/group to the subtasks, or NOT to apply those settings, would be incredible.
Here’s the screenshot she posted as a proposed UI:
Excited to use this soon! Let’s go Team Asana
Thank you @Bryan_TeamKickstart for posting this idea again
Now that Group has been added (which I use very often, I love it!), again all subtasks are gone. Asana could keep showing the subtasks under Groups, no?
Personally, I have ended up adding all subtasks to Projects so they’re visible (wherever I need them to be). On the other hand, I’m seriously thinking of stop using subtasks at all! Maybe only for ‘notes’ and not actual assigned tasks…
Elina.
If you’re asking about the ability to expand/collapse subtasks even when Group by (or other Filters/Sorts are set) then my understanding is that it’s on the way soon.
Thanks,
Larry
If this isn’t happening anytime soon, i’m just adding my vote for you all to fix this issue. It’s hindering our team from adopting Asana.
2020! i cant believe a simple UI update like this that has over 170 feature requests is outstanding still!
Hi Larry! I must’ve been included, at least temporarily in the A/B group, as I had access to this feature for the past few weeks, and then it went away (which is a bummer, because I loved using it). What is the ETA on an official release?
Welcome, @Nicholas_Cusick,
We’ll have to wait for an update from Asana. It’s unclear what the state of both existing and new features is at this point.
Thanks,
Larry
Hi, Marie! Any updates on this front? Or a final decision on whether you’re going to roll out to all users? Looks like your original estimate for a final decision was June 30th (ish), so I’m wondering whether I missed anything.
Is there any update on this? It’s been around for a long time and has almost 500 votes. It is driving my team crazy.
It’s about to be September… any updates??
This has been a thorn at my side for so long now. I really dislike not being able to see my subtasks in the custom list views.
Checking in here. Keep this thread alive!
Hi everyone! I’m delighted to share that it’s now possible to see subtasks in project list view when using filters, sorts, and grouping by features Thanks for sharing your feedback on this thread and we hope this update help you see subtasks in list view at a glance!
