Disable rich text from a certain text field - ability to choose between rich or plain text

The recent ability to add rich text to a text field is a great update, however for certain fields, I would rather have the ability to disable rich text and simply be able to paste text that gets stripped of all formatting, as it used to be.

Perhaps a simple checkbox would do the trick, like my crude sketch below?

The issue is, for example, when pasting a website or a URL which converts to a vanity link, so now we need to spend time converting it to plain text.

Before (with plain text):

After (with Rich text update):

Btw, when I try to edit, I’m annoyingly blocked by the formatting toolbar, obscuring the text field, making it nearly impossible to clear, without some nifty shift+tab keyboard work.

Thanks, @Richard_Sather. I just voted, and I ran into this yesterday.

This seemed to come about after supporting hyperlinks with text in list view, a request I made after it was expected but missing from the initial rollout of rich text.

It seems like usability and UX are suffering more than in the past, perhaps as a result of the velocity of new features and updates.

Thanks,

Larry

Agreed! I use the Outlook integration to send followup emails to requestors, and with rich text, the custom fields with formatted links show as just plain text rather than hyperlinks. If I can’t control what goes into a field, this will be an ongoing issue for our team.

@Beth_Seeber, That’s a key point but I think you should create a separate English Forum > Product Feedback topic for it, if one doesn’t exist.

Thanks,
