Hi all, I’m working on setting up a recurring template for my new job. Use case is repetitive build outs of locations with the same tasks and timelines every time.
I know this setup works because I did it before at a past job and it worked, but I must be missing a setting. Here is what I want to do in an overview and then description and screenshots below.
I have created a template with a “Clinic Name” master task that has 6 subtasks under that main task. The main task was set to “Project Due Date” and the Subtasks (Date control) were set to 1 day before project due date. The goal is when the main task date is changed the subtasks will update to one day before. That will then cascade down the task list to update all of those based off them tied to one of the 6 Date Control subtasks. I know this is a complete workaround to using something like Flowsana, but our organization is extremely adverse to annual spend and won’t agree to adding that cost for a project management key function. I also know this worked in a past job so I know there is a way to make it work here, once I figure out what I am missing.
See visual below for “Clinic Name” task:
I then am assigning the project specific tasks to one of the “Date Control” tasks. I have six to get around the fact you can only block 49 tasks with one other task. That setup is shown here:
When I publish the template and test moving the “Clinic Name” date in Gantt Chart view (also know I have to do this rather than changing it on the main screen) it says dependent tasks are being updated, but nothing changes.
I have the settings to Maintain Buffer and I have tried switching the FS, FF, SS, SF, etc. with no effect or combo I have tried working. I’m at a loss as to why this worked before but won’t work now. Thoughts?
