Dash: clarifying if a message costs a Request

Hi Asana enthusiasts :waving_hand:

The starting point: Did you know that with Dash (Asana AI assistant), some questions cost an AI Request and some don’t. The Help Center even keeps a dedicated list of the ones that don’t.

From Help Center
Dash interactions that do not consume your AI Requests

  • …finding, explaining, summarizing, comparing, prioritizing, catching up on work.
  • Basic actions like creating or updating a task.
  • Dash’s own clarifying questions.
  • Short messages like “thanks”.

That’s generous, and worth saying out loud. :star_struck:

And the other side of the line: you pay when the work gets complex. Integrations, web search, long content, or when Dash hands the work to an AI Teammate.

My issue:

nothing tells me which side (free or paying) before the result, or even after…

The only workaround I’ve found is to ask Dash directly, but I got limited results, and not always accurate.

What I’d like:

  • Tell the user in the chat when a message did cost a request.
  • Or ideally, ask user to confirm before spending one.

Either one helps. Both would be better.

If you have a better way, please share your tips.

Agreed.

We need more clarity in general around what is a work request and what isn’t.

I was looking for a way to get this information as well. I even tried giving Dash an instruction to identify when something would use a credit and ask me if I wanted to proceed before continuing.

Unfortunately, that didn’t work.

I agree. Dash doesn’t currently seem to have an understanding of when a Request will be used.
