My request isn’t necessarily about “more colours”, but more the range of colours. Ideally we’d like to be able to show progression of a Task through the colours, with a lighter tone showing “limited progress” and a darker tone showing “greater process” to completion. i.e. start light green, and progressively getting darker as it progresses through a tasks life-cycle. Asana only has 2 green tones, we need ~6 tones of green.
When thinking about it, for how we use the system, having less colours (i.e red, green, yellow, blue), but more range around the base colours.

I’m all about some a11y @Garrett_Knoll. If you folks haven’t already considered using relative colors for this—I’d definitely consider that. I like using the newer oklch() color function for things like this.
You get better perceptual uniformity across hues[1] and a wider gamut than you do with hsl().
Here’s a CodePen demo that does a great job demonstrating this with a hue slider and a couple of articles that I found really helpful when I was first learning how to apply this to a project I was working on:
Useful when you need text to remain legible against background colors because the perceptual brightness stays the same across them. ↩︎
Any updates on this? It’s wild that this has been a feature request since 2017 — almost a decade!
I manage projects from multiple clients at any given time. I do my best with the limited palette, but when four clients all have brand colors of blue, that renders the color coding capability useless. If I could assign custom Hex #s, it would allow me to actually color code based on client.
@Skyler I appreciate your a11y advocacy! Looking at supporting H3 in our Text Editor for Asana Notes already 
. Color was a focus last year, and we were thorough in our explorations - both with what shipped, and with what our new color system would need to support for future cross-product color customization.
@Jessi_Bruton1 having come from an agency adjacent background, I totally empathize with your need here. Fully custom hex values create an a11y nightmare. But would either of the two solutions below meet your needs?

While I appreciate the expanded palette, and this is a half-step in the right direction, it still doesn’t address my issue. If the whole point is to use color-coding for quick recognition of which product is associated with which client, this doesn’t meet that goal.
I appreciate the complexity of a11y advocacy, but this isn’t for an external-facing website that needs to be fully accessible for the general public. As an internal tool, client or brand-based color customization is a reasonable capability to expect — and one that most other software supports.
A better compromise would be something more in the spirit of an on-off control, like how Photoshop’s color palette allows you to check the “web-safe colors only” checkbox that limits the color palette, but, unchecked, you can use the full gamut.
I’ve been following this thread for years and have always been interested in colour options, however I’m curious as to what exactly the ask is here.
Th original OP is asking for more colours for their ‘clients’ so I’m assuming that’s for project icon colours, as some other folks are also asking for here.
Then others are asking for more colours for tags, custom fields dropdown options, dashboard charts, portfolios icons etc.
I’m wondering if anyone is asking for a ‘Colour’ custom field type which could display a large coloured box (perhaps full cell fill) and display in contrasting black/white text the actual colour code, formatted in RGB, CMYK, HEX etc. Clicking into this field, I would imagine a modal similar to a Photoshop colour picker, as @Jessi_Bruton1 describes above.
Back in the day as an Architect, I craved such a field that would complement my Asana lists / databases of paints & material finishes & fixtures. I can imagine others using it for similar applications in web and graphic design, print, manufacturing and many other applications where colour is an important parameter, or data point.
I’m wondering if such a ‘Colour’ field would be of interest to others. If so, I will create a separate thread to vote on this, if it doesn’t already exist!

I’m more interested in the ability to have a wider gamut of options for all current areas in the platform where we can set a color currently (teams, portfolios, projects, tags, custom field backgrounds, custom task status backgrounds, etc.).
That said, I wouldn’t be opposed to having a custom field that accepts and displays a color from a HEX, OKLCH, TGH, HSL, CMYK, etc. value. There’ve been multiple times where I could’ve used something like that when designing and building product.
We as a platform have the responsibility to deliver you, your employees, and even your customers with an accessible product experience. Asana is the most accessible collaborative work management solution by far (and we’re still pushing that further). But one thing I know from managing over a dozen teams at Asana over the years is that people with visual impairments rarely feel comfortable self-disclosing - and they shouldn’t / legally aren’t required to do so. That being said I’ve logged your feedback so we can include it in future iterations of our color palette!

Any updates here??? It seems like a lot of lip service with no progress, and then today my Asana rolled all colors out of colorblind mode and is ignoring that toggle/feature entirely.
Usually, there’s no comment on updates unless there’s news to share.

There are not enough color options in projects to be able to distinguish all clients. It would be great if we could create custom colors that match client branding.
