Create custom report for number of days a task is open

I was curious if there was a way to create a custom report on my dashboard with the average number of days that a task is open in a specific project.

Back story: We have a board for onboarding our customers and each task is a new customer with the specific tasks for them to be “onboarded”. We want to track the average time that takes.

Has anyone else done something like this or have a trick for it?

Show days from creation to completion in dashboard

You should send me an email (siebman@gmail.com), I have a solution which is a script that runs every night, goes through tasks within a project, and updates a custom field based on a custom formula. I could definitely fill a custom field with the number of days between creation and completion!
