I’m excited to share we’ve just launched a super simple way to turn Slack messages into Asana tasks with just an emoji reaction!
Here’s how it works:
One-click task creation: Simply react to any Slack message with emoji to instantly create an Asana task. Context preserved: The message content and any thread replies are automatically included in your task description
Seamless workflow: Tasks appear directly in your My Tasks, so you never lose track of important work
Perfect for teams: Great for request tracking, work intake, project management, and team collaboration
Follow these steps to get started:
Open the channel details by clicking the three dot icon on the top right corner or clicking the channel name
Once the app is added, you can start adding the emoji to create an Asana tasks
This feature is perfect for those moments when someone shares something important in Slack and you think “I need to remember to do this!” - now you can capture it instantly without switching apps or losing context.
As always, please feel free to share your thoughts and feedback in the comments below. We’re really looking forward to hearing how this streamlines your workflow!
@HSofia@Fritz_Boyle_PDX The feature is available for both private and public channels. As mentioned here, the Asana app needs to be explicitly added to the channel for privacy reasons.
It also works with DMs, but the app needs to be explicitly part of the group DMs, which is inconvenient for most users.
I haven’t been able to make this happen. Asana is added to the channel. I can create the task from the menu (which opens the form), but adding the reaction to a message doesn’t cause any action.
Is it tied to AI features? Because my org currently has those disabled.
I’m basically having the same issue as Brian. I followed the steps to add Asana explicitly to a channel, then added the reaction to a message in that channel, and nothing happened, other than the emoji adding to the Slack message. Is there some other setup required?
I like this @Emily_Roman. It’d be great if we could set a custom trigger emoji…but I know that’d be tricky to implement and maintain.
We added the Asana logo as a custom Slack emoji a couple years back and use it to trigger a webhook to do something similar. Debating if we’ll keep using that or not since we’re already used to it and the emoji doesn’t contrast well in lighter themes.
This is nice, but I don’t like the automatic posting of a link to the task in the thread once it’s been created.
The task that gets created isn’t in a shape where that task is well defined. It needs it’s title, description and other fields to be set up properly, and then assigned to the correct person and project.
Auto-posting a link to the newly created, un-moderated task, creates more work because then we have to remember to delete that link.
It would be far better, as with the previous Slack integration method, for a link to the task to be visible ONLY to the person that created it, with an option to SHARE the task with a button click if the user wants to do that.
I can’t see us using this feature very much due to this - perhaps this can be addressed by the Asana team? Generally the Slack integration overall feels very unloved, lot’s of UX issues and missing functionality like thread/comment sync IMO.
