Asana is now expensive and it’s crazy that we can’t manage Tag in Rules. And Asana recommend to pay for Zapier or Flowsana to do that?
Agreed!! I’m now in a position where I have to make a case to my CMO for investing in Flowsana because it’s the one solution we have to things like actually making project templates useful, and creating unique Task IDs, and ADDING A TAG WITH A RULE!!! Honestly, I’m grateful Flowsana exists, but we have a fairly large team and if the budget for it doesn’t get approved, we’re just stuck waiting for Asana to make their product functional and useful to it’s users – which could take a while! Great ideas (like task templates & rules) are only as good as the follow through!
Asana, you can do better!
+1 for this feature! My team would like the ability to set rules that triggers “Add tag to task” - without needing yet another 3rd party service (Flowsana). It’s unfortunate this relatively simple feature hasn’t been prioritized given that this chain started over 2 years ago
Also in need of this feature.
This would make my life so much easier! Hoping Asana makes this happen soon because it seems like it should be a standard feature.
+1 for this feature. Jira really beats Asana hands down in automation.
I’m looking to use Asana as a ticketing system for our payroll team. I’d love the ability to add tags based on selections in a task so we can help track where requests are coming from. Currently need conditional logic in that rule that Flowsana and Zapier aren’t able to do.
For example if a task is created from our Google form and the respondent selected “position” I’d like to auto tag that task with “HR” and then have Asana auto assign the HR team to the task in the project.
Hello Everyone,
I apologize in advance if this has already been discussed. I like to add tags to certain tasks for reporting purposes and was wondering if there is a way to do this without going through Flowsana? For instance, I have an Action Items section in all of my projects and like to add an Action Items tag to those tasks. It would be beneficial if I could create a rule so that when a task is moved to the Action Items section the proper tag is assigned automatically. Its not the end of the world to manually add the tag, but I could see the benefit in it happening automatically. I see that it is an option in Flowsana, but my org currently does not have an agreement with them.
Welcome to the Asana Community Forum @Daniel04! I have merged your post into an existing feedback request thread, don’t forget to upvote
I think a lot of people are waiting for this feature.
This is a must-have feature. I would really like to set up an automatic due-date approaching tag with individual descriptions such as ‘script due-date approaching’ or ‘content due-date approaching’ etc., which would then trigger different reminder emails in outlook to contributors who are external to the asana workspace, but still in the organisation. There doesn’t currently seem to be a way to do this which does not have an add-on cost.
+1 for adding tags as triggers/actions in rules. Could not believe this is only possible via 3rd-party
Yes, would also love to be able to automatically add tagged tasks to projects without using a third party (currently using Flowsana).
+1 for this feature. Or alternatively, allow app actions (Flowsana in this case) in project template rules.
My use case/issue:
I’d like to be able to set up a rule in my creative agency’s ‘campaign’ project template:
Trigger: The status of a custom drop-down field (‘Deliverable Status’) is changed to ‘V.1 ready for client’
Action: Add tag to task (in this case it would be ‘V.1 email’).
The reason for adding the tag is because we use the ‘Tag Added to Task in Asana’ trigger in Zapier (which in turn launches a series of actions to draft an email to the client containing a link to the relevant deliverable for their approval).
Our current workaround is a task in the project template (in a ‘campaign prep’ section), which literally spells out how to create the 3 x custom rules (using Flowsana) that we need to add each time we create a new project from that template. The extra admin and potential for error makes this frustrating - especially as it seems like a long-awaited, much requested feature. Crossing fingers this may come soon!
I stated using tags as trigger for Zapier but got same problem.
Now I use:
IF value in Field are changed to… Send e-mail to…
My e-mail is setup to add a specific label om theese e-mails
My Zapier looks at this gmail and triggers when an e-mail that label…
Honestly, I am baffled why this feature is still not done.
We have unicorns riding on rainbows, but we still cannot do a simple thing like adding tags automatically. Seriously?
I have created a rule to add subtasks when a task is entered to the project. Now I am being asked to add Tags to the subtasks. When I edit the subtasks under the rule there is no option to add the tags. Is there a way to add the tags to the subtasks in the rule or do I have to manually add the tags once the rule has run?
Rules don’t support the addition of tags right now
The only automated solution currently is to use a third-party integration such as our Flowsana integration.
honestly this drives me crazy.
every time i try to automate a process properly, there is ALWAYS a dead-end in asana on significant key-points…
