Auto Fill a field based on Name

Is it possible to create a field that has a rule to assign to a department based on Name? For example, John Doe belongs to Sales, when John Doe is assigned to a project or task, the department field is automatically populated with Sales.

I may have missed this in previous discussions, if so, please point me in the correct direction.

Yes, if you’re on Asana Business or Enterprise, you can write this rule as follows (just replace the “Set Plan” custom field in the example with your “Set Team” custom field:

Note the trigger has multiple triggers, any one of which will trigger the action. Thus, you’ll need only one rule per Team.
