Asana MCP cannot share attachment image links. Bot Protection prevents access to assets. I cannot use any AI client to read asana tasks with attachments. This renders get_attachments less than useful.
Hi! I’m from the Asana Developer Support team. What AI client are you using with the Asana MCP? Have you tried asking in the chat directly to get the attachments of a task rather than having the AI try to render the image URL itself?
I just tested this with Claude and it works perfectly. I asked it to fetch the attachments for a task and it returned the attachment name and a working link without any bot protection issues.

Inline attachments are stored at a url hosted at https://asanausercontent.com. That domain has bot protection enabled. Hence, AI clients cannot access it. Here is the sample.
If i read a task via the mcp client - it detects the link - but it cannot download or read the content of that image.

Hi @anujmulik, thanks for testing this out and the detailed explanation. The bot protection on asanausercontent.com is intentional and was put in place for a specific reason. The bot protection stops automated programs from downloading private files, ensuring only real, logged-in users can see them.
That said, there is a workaround: you can still ask your AI client to fetch the attachments for a task, and it will return the download links in the chat. You can then just click on them directly to open the images in your browser. It’s not as seamless as having the AI render them inline, but it still does the job.
I need the ai to perform analysis on the file without human in the loop. So this is a blocker as such. But thanks for letting me know.
