I have two large and almost identical templates that both utilize a bundle that includes sections, custom task types, rules, and custom fields. All the custom fields are saved to the company library.
These template have slowly evolved over the past few months but suddenly a few weeks ago, anytime I click the Customize button in either template OR any projects created with it, the side panel doesn’t load and I immediately get the popup saying Asana needs to reload. Reloading doesn’t help, it gives the same error as soon as I try again.
It seemed to be something in the bundle, because other projects were fine until I tried to apply that bundle and then same issue. And I couldn’t edit or delete the bundle, because even just trying to open it independent of a project (from the starred list) also causes the reload error.
I began to rebuild both of my templates entirely including a brand new bundle, and everything was fine until I added one specific custom field from my library and suddenly I got the same error. I deleted that field entirely from Asana and suddenly even my old templates and projects were fine again, other than some rules that relied on that field and needed to be adjusted. I continued with my template rebuild since I was almost done and had made some minor adjustments anyway in some of the task descriptions, but a few days later it started generating the error as well, and now my old templates/projects were again too. I hadnt even added any rules yet to this rebuild bundle so nothing conflicting there that might be the culprit.
Finally, in desperation because our rollout is now weeks and weeks delayed, I started rebuilding both templates yet again, and gave up on bundles entirely. Everything was to be saved at the template level. At one point I added one of the Task Types used and got the error- spent hours then manually changing every task on all our active projects to a similar task type so I could safely delete it without losing task status info on 45 projects. Deleted the task type, no more error.
An hour later after I had done nothing but create a NEW custom field (and shared to library) and once again, the refresh error anytime I click customize on the new new templates. And virtually every other project of ours using custom tasks or columns. I am at my wits end and have been waiting weeks for Asana Support to provide any insight or assistance. Even with starting from a CSV import based on a prior project’s export, I’ve spent upwards of 60 hours in the last few weeks trying to recreate these templates and troubleshoot.
NOT a browser/connections issue, or a permissions one. I am the admin and only one with permission to edit all of these custom fields, templates, bundles, and task types. This issue occurs even if another user clicks Customize on any of these projects. It happens on the desktop app, on Chrome, on Edge. On Incognito windows. On my work PC and my personal Macbook. It has nothing to do with my connection.
