Asana Administrator can remove projects

I’ve just realised that Asana admin invited to the project as editor (not project admin) can remove the project. Is this expected behaviour?

If yes, I wonder why he cannot archive the project as it is another option reserved for project admins. It would be consistent behaviour.

@Forum-team, I just corroborated this. And even if the invited Asana Admin only has viewer permission to the project she can still delete the project.

Can you explain why this is and where it is documented?

Thanks,

Larry

Hi team, please allow me to confirm this internally. Thank you!

Hi everyone,

I have confirmed internally that:
What you’re seeing can come from two different permission layers.

If the user is a super admin and was using work access mode, then being able to remove/delete the project would be expected, even if their role on that specific project appears as Viewer.

If they were not using work access mode, I’d next check the project’s own permissions. Projects can also have project admins, and project admins have full control over the project. It’s also worth reviewing the project’s Review project permissions and privacy settings to confirm whether the user had broader project-level control than expected.

Thank you

Thanks, @Irish_Makimura,

I can confirm in my case it was neither work access mode and the user only had viewer permission.

@AnnaPapiernik, I recommend you file with Support.

Thanks,

Larry

@Irish_Makimura thank you very much. As I can see work access mode is available only in Enterprise and Enterprise+. I’m on Advanced plan and I’m superadmin. My client is on Asana Advanced too but he is not superadmin. We both observe the issue without work access mode.

I will contact with Support team.

@lpb Thank you for your support here too.

I received the confirmation from Support team that it’s expected behaviour:

  • Both Organization Admins and Super Admins are able to delete a project regardless of their role within that specific project.

  • The ability to archive a project continues to follow the project-level permission model, so it requires the appropriate project permissions.

Thanks, @AnnaPapiernik,

Did they say if this is documented in Help anywhere? I don’t recall encountering it when I checked.

Thanks again,

Larry

Not documented.

Thanks, @AnnaPapiernik

@Forum-team, Can you ask for this be documented?

Thanks,

Larry

I’ve already asked for this.

Ah, ok, thanks; Please ignore, Forum Team!
