Archive a Section in a Project

Rules isn’t a great solution for me here unfortunately, as I still want the completed tasks in their original section. Using your solution would mean creating two projects for the same project, one for completed tasks and one for open tasks.

This is such a weird thing to not resolve, as you used to have the ability to mark a section as Complete, and do exactly what everybody is asking for here.

As it is now, this is a major blocker for most of our clients to start using Asana. A real shame.

I concur - this is basic functionality that needs to be implemented. Here’s hoping for an update so I can switch my team back from ClickUp.

Hi David,

I totally get it. Hence why we are asking for this feature to be developed.
I am surprised that this is causing clients to refuse using asana. From my experience, asana present far more benefits than the lack of ability to mark a section complete - something which has a work around within the platform.

Perhaps try and see if there are other blockers that your clients are not sharing that would help you get a better picture from them so you can present other solutions.

I give up

Asana, any movement on this? Looks like people have been asking for years. Just want to add my +1 that archiving sections is essential… doesn’t seem like that big of an ask.

Really wish we’d see any movement on this. It’s not an issue for new users, but for anyone who’s used Asana for say a year+: this is such a nightmare. You’re going to have churn. I plan to start looking at Trello and Monday, and if they offer the ability to archive/set as “Done” specific sections, then I’ll be looking to migrate my team over. Such a shame, as I’ve loved Asana for years.

Just ran into this issue myself today. We have agencies as projects and clients as sections, and archiving a section (instead of losing all historical tasks that were under that section when it has to be deleted) would be a really nice way to hang on to records.

Would love to see this implemented!

I agree - this is the biggest issue my team has with Asana as of right now. I am surprised to see that this has been an ongoing issue since June of 2017 and 4 years later we are still complaining about it?

What is the timeline for adding this feature? Our team would like to be able to archive sections without deleting previously completed tasks and losing the traceability

We’re about a month into adopting Asana. Generally it’s great, but we need to be able to archive sections, not delete them.

It’d be great to have the ability to either:
• hide sections (worst case), or
• archive sections, or
• move sections to another ‘team’ e.g. Archive

Our project sections are growing and will continue to. We really need to get them out of general view once the work is completed, but keep the history of that work.

It’s surprising that this is an ongoing issue, has been since 2017. Clearly, we’re not the only ones asking for this fix.

Is there any progress on this?

Agree with you. Rules are not a suitable workaround, particularly when it complicates the process.

Adding onto the 4 years of requests for this feature…

Agree here - would be wildly helpful. @Marie?

+1 for this

I cannot understand why the ability to archive sections hasn’t been implemented yet. This feature request was raised 4 years ago! It’s a critical feature IMO.

That’s unfortunate because there one of the ONLY platforms that doesn’t provide a launch plan for new features, a bit suspicious. Which makes me wonder. Do they even work on improving the platform or listening to these forums (many of which are 5+ years old)

That is actually not true, not based on my research anyway 🗺 Public roadmap: how does Asana compare with its competitors?

I’d like to archive all of my tasks within a section, but keep them organized together as a section. The ability to archive an entire section, with the section heading, would be fantastic
