I’m trying to see what the average amount of Actual Time was spent on tasks, categorized by a single select custom field, but any time tracked to the subtasks is not included in the dashboard widget.
We tag all our tasks with a “Deliverable Type” value in a custom field. They could be like an graphic for socials, website edits, 1 page flyers, or a presentation PowerPoint. I’m trying to see the average amount of time we track to the “Actual Time” field for each of these types of deliverables. We only tag the parent task with this value, but we often have a bunch of different subtasks (that’s how we track our version control, a new subtask for each new version of the asset).
I can see the roll up of actual time for each task in list view where, for example, we spent 1 hour on the parent task, and 4 subsequent hours on the subtasks, which totals 5 hours in the roll up. However, when I try to use a widget in the dashboard it only counts that 1 hour in the parent task in a bar graph widget when I use these settings:
Am I just creating the graph incorrectly or is this a functional flaw with the time roll up feature?

The issue you’re running into is that your subtasks don’t have a Deliverable Type assigned.
As you are using Deliverable Type as axis, Asana won’t include subtasks that have a blank value for that field. Unfortunately, the automatic time rollup you see in List View doesn’t translate directly into Dashboard charts.
You’ll need to set the Deliverable Type on the subtasks as well.

@Thaïssa_iDO Yeah, I know our subtasks don’t have the Deliverable Type value, but I don’t think is should matter. My questions is more about why the actual time roll up doesn’t carry over from the list view to a widget. That seems like an oversight, why have it in one place but not the other?
There is already an option to include or exclude subtasks in a widget, but that choice is just made for me for actual time by not including the subtasks’ actual time in the parent task’s actual time.
Fair point @Sam_Barnett! I completely agree it’s frustrating that rollup behavior isn’t consistent between List view and Dashboards.
Right now, Dashboard widgets evaluate tasks and subtasks as individual entries rather than aggregating subtask time into the parent task when grouping by a custom field. It’s definitely a product limitation worth pushing in Product Feedback!
