Currently evaluating Asana. This omission seems like a real pain. Its nice to be able to create multiple levels of nesting with subtasks, but to not be able to simply expand them in the List and Gannt view makes the project very difficult to navigate.
Adding to the years long list of people looking for this feature!
The ability to use both Sort and See subtasks in list view is a huge must. Even Monday.com and Wrike have it (and I hate both of those platforms!)
Hope this can be updated sooner rather than later
My company is migrating from SmartSheet. I have a few projects that I simply can’t migrate in a logical format from SmartSheet to Asana. It’s absurd that Excel is likely a better solution in my case.
Garrett here, a Group PM lead owning our core project management features. Improving feature gaps in our subtasks experience is currently a priority and I’m happy to share this made it on our roadmap. There are a number of prerequisites already prioritized for our current half, but design is exploring the approach to this opportunity - particularly taking into account the experience of SmartSheet users coming over to Asana
This feature would really help our workflow and help us create our Marketing Calendar in Asana, rather than in a separate tool. Seeing all levels of subtasks in list view would allow us to multi-select subtasks that are deeper than 1 level down, then take bulk actions (mutli-homing, editing fields). We want to multi-home subtasks in a Marketing Calendar project, but currently have to go into each subtask individually if they’re more than 1 level down. This slows things down significantly and creates a lot of manual work. Ideally, we could see various layers of subtasks > multi-select subtasks > multi-home them in a new project and edit fields.
Updating the status to In Development! There is foundational work to support this before you’ll see anything in product, but I’m very excited to say we’re finally working on it!
Way to go, @Garrett_Knoll and team!!
is it possible to create collapsible sections in the subtasks?
Welcome, @Aron_Berger1,
Not currently. I’ve merged your post into an existing topic where you can click the title to scroll to the top and vote by clicking the Vote button.
Thanks,

@Garrett_Knoll, as mentioned a couple posts above, we hope you’ll plan for subtask sections (separators) to operate predictably and allow expand/collapse.
Thanks,
Larry
@Aron_Berger1 @lpb I’m very much am passionate about improving the task pane subtask management experience! Subtask management in the task pane is already prioritized for the first half of 2026. We are well into our journey towards my goal of (finally) making subtasks a first class Asana object! That includes making subtask sections feel more native vs a hidden keyboard shortcut functionality
Thanks, @Garrett_Knoll; this is music to my ears!
We continue to push ahead on our Subtask roadmap. Task pane subtask management is currently in scoping/design (which I’m super excited about!). Subtask hierarchy in List view has made it’s way to implementation now

This is exactly what I am are hoping for! When you say it has made its way to implementation, does that indicate we may see it in our product soon?
