Hi,

I use a gtd like process to organize my project and tasks. I have a lot of tasks in Asana and I switch tasks between today / upcoming / later on a regular basis depending on my priorities. I try not to use too much due dates unless there’s a real due date.

With older version of my tasks I was able to see all tasks in Later section by projects but not upcoming and today. I had found a fix with advanced search but the Today / Upcoming / Later criteria has disappeared at some point. It was working for me but not for new team members.

I was hoping new my tasks would solve that and it’s very close to it because now you can sort tasks within sections for due date or alphabetical order. The only sorting type that doesn’t work like that is by project so it makes it impossible for me to review that many tasks in a complete disorder / mess. I still can’t go back to advanced search fix because I can’t search in my tasks “project”.

So please make it possible to sort tasks by project within sections in my tasks it will make it even more gtd friendly out of the box.

Thanks
Pierre-Michel

I have the same problem. The new update appears to have removed this essential feature for the Later section of My Tasks

I’m not seeing the Sort within Sections feature on My Tasks (under due date column). Is this only in a certain paid version of the program?

Hi it’s just here. And below “Projet” which obviously means project 🙂 you have the option to sort by section. But it’s not working only when you select by project sorting.

I don’t understand… I don’t see why it make sense to have the (premium) ability to add custom fields and then not be able to filter based on them inside the project sections. This is our #1 issue with using asana (specifically we need to [filter based on Tags](https://forum.asana.com/t/filter-tasks-by-tag/26824/114)). It seems like Asana does not work well once a project gets to “Scale”.

@Daniel_Street,

I think you’re mischaracterizing this very specific thread as applying generally to projects and custom fields where it does not. In projects you _can_ filter on custom fields and sort within sections.

Re tags, those are an original feature of Asana before custom fields, and Asana supports custom fields widely, and tags not as much so. For scale, generally use custom fields instead of tags, where possible.

Thanks,

Larry

@Accounting_General,

_Correction by Larry on 2024 10 05: This only applies to Projects, not My Tasks._

You can sort by Projects like this:

 ![image](https://us1.discourse-cdn.com/asana/original/3X/5/5/554a800db477eca046668cf5f2a08eebca06c5ef.jpeg)

(If Projects column is not showing, click Customize then toggle it to show.)

You cannot sort by Tags, I’m afraid.

Thanks,

Larry

I do not have the same listings in the dropdown that are populating in your snapshot.
I need to ability to sort My Tasks by project (as Asana still has not created a feature that removes tasks attached to Completed and Archived projects)

PFA the screenshots of what appears in my dropdown options for the Project column, as well as under for Sort options.

Welcome, @Amanda_Kimball1,

Apologies, my previous post only applies to projects, not to My Tasks. I just added a correction to that post.

Don’t forget to click the title to scroll to the top and vote by clicking the purple Vote button; that’s the quickest and most effective way to express your support for this request.
