Ability to create and assign tasks from Google Docs

please tell me that this basic capability is live already? we should be able to create Asana tasks from Google Workspace since 2017 - if we get GTA6 before this then lol

Hi all! We were finally able to re-open this thread after it was closed without full resolution since the Asana Google Chrome extension didn’t actually allow users to create and assign tasks seamlessly from Google Docs (you still had to copy and paste tasks instead of being able to highlight text and create a task). I would love to get more traction on this thread so they can (hopefully) put this on their product roadmap since 7 years of comments (since 2017) still isn’t enough to have this product feature launched (and hoping we will get more than just stock responses) :sweat_smile:

I can’t believe it’s 2025 and this basic functionality still doesn’t exist! Like so many others have noted, my team uses google docs extensively for meeting notes and naming action steps. It’s incredibly ineffective and inefficient to have to manually enter tasks into Asana from google docs. This really should be a basic feature. What’s it going to take for Asana to address this need?

I think Asana appreciates understanding the specific use cases that underlie your votes/request, so including that detail (if you haven’t already; I haven’t read all 100+ posts!) could help.

Hi Larry – My team uses Google docs daily for agendas, meeting notes, and project briefs. I find it incomprehensible that Asana has produced an add-on that allows me to create new tasks and comments from an Outlook email….but we STILL can create tasks and make comments from inside of a Google doc?? I can’t wrap my mind around this; it seems like a total no-brainer, and yet almost 8 years of users and their comments hasn’t yet seemed to establish a compelling (enough) business use case?
